What types of data count towards the usage limits?
Media and files that your Matrix clients send via the media upload API, previews of links that your client requests via the URL preview API, and any other usage that stores data in the local media or content repository. Data that does not count includes media received from other users, message contents, and HTTPS data transfer.
How can I see how much data I have used?
You can view your current data usage in the Plan section of the My Account screens.
What is the mission of The Matrix.org Foundation?
The Matrix.org Foundation exists to act as a neutral custodian for Matrix and to nurture it as a single unfragmented standard for the greater benefit of the whole ecosystem. It aims to maximize the number of Matrix-native end-users, regular users on the network, online servers in the federation, developers building on Matrix, and independent implementations.
Who governs Matrix?
Matrix is governed through an open governance process managed by The Matrix.org Foundation, a non-profit UK Community Interest Company. The project is overseen by Guardians who are the legal directors of the Foundation, and the Spec Core Team which manages the contents and direction of the Matrix Specification.
Can I choose where to host my Matrix account?
Yes. You don't have to use the matrix.org homeserver. You could choose to use another shared homeserver or have your own dedicated homeserver, giving you control over where your data is stored and who looks after it.
